Katherine Hinkson's Annotated Transcript
The purpose of this page is to describe the coursework during the completion of my Master of Arts in Education degree from Michigan State University. I began during Fall of 2009, during my year long internship. My coursework was completed with my capstone class in Summer 2013.
TE 802: Reflection and Inquiry in Teaching Practice I
Fall 2009 Instructor: Sarah Little
This course was taking during my student teaching internship. We examined different research methods for teaching and learning, and how to best apply research based knowledge to our teaching practice. For this course, I developed a profile of writers in my first grade internship classroom and created a plan of how to fit their unique needs.

CEP 840: Policies, Practices, and Perspectives in Special Education
Summer 2012 Instructor: Carol Sue Englert
This course was my first in depth look at special education. As an elementary education major in undergraduate, I learned a tremendous amount of new information in this course. We examined characteristics of students with special needs and learning disabilities, professional and legal responsibilities as teachers, as well as the impact of policies on special education practices.

TE 846: Accommodating for Differences in Literacy Learners
Summer 2012 Instructor: Erin Jurand
This class was centered around effective reading and writing instruction. We looked at the components necessary to be a successful literacy learner. Another focus was differentiated instruction to meet the needs of all learners. In this course, we conducted our own assessments of a previous identified struggling reader or writer and designed a plan to provide effective literacy instruction.

In this course, we examined concepts of inquiry in education. This included inquiry's role in educational history, theory and practice, and administration and leadership. We also considered philosophical, psychological, biological, historical, biographical, and ethnographic concepts of inquiry. As part of this course, we considered technology's role in inquiry and how inquiry can be applied to educational practices.

CEP 843: ASD: Characteristics and Educational Implications
Fall 2012 Instructor: Summer Ferreri
The purpose of this class was to take an in-depth look at Autism Spectrum Disorders. I learned about the history, was exposed to a variety of theories about ASD, and discussed the implications of ASD in a school setting. One of my favorite parts of this course was the book study. I chose to read Carly's Voice, which I then was able to share with colleagues for a professional learning experience.

ED 870: Capstone Seminar
Summer 2013 Instructor: Matt Koehler
As the final course for the program, the capstone requires a reflection over all of the courses taken. The end result is the creation of this online portfolio, through which I am able to reflect on my teaching and learning. During this course, I was able to develop my teaching philosophy further, while incorporating elements of theory and practice.
